Vocational Nursing Schools
Vocational Nursing Schools Offer Challenging Yet Shorter Path to Becoming a Registered Nurse
If you want to become a registered nurse and experience a hands-on approach but spend less time in nursing school, then vocational nursing schools may be your answer. Instead of studying the different areas that are involved with a four-year degree or even an associate degree, vocational nursing schools focus solely on the art of nursing.
Vocational Nursing Schools
Vocational nursing schools cut down on the amount of time it takes to become a registered nurse. Programs generally last three years. According to the American Nurses Association (ANA), of all practicing registered nurses in the US, 25.2 percent came from vocational nursing schools. Most nursing diploma programs are taught in hospitals, functioning as apprenticeship programs. This allows you to care for patients immediately, instead of studying theory for years before you get the chance to even see a patient.
Still in Demand
In 1965, the ANA requested that nursing schools move to the college and university system. in 2007, of all newly registered nurses, only 3.1 percent came from diploma programs. Despite this, with the growing demand of nurses across the country, seats in vocational nursing schools still fill up as they dutifully prepare students to become registered nurses. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, by 2018, the demand for registered nurses will increase by 22 percent. With the growing demand of nursing as an occupation, all types of nursing schools still make a great way to get into the profession.
