X Ray Tech Schools
Radiologic technicians (i.e., those who have graduated from X Ray tech schools) help take x rays and administer nonradioactive diagnostic agents in patients' blood so as to detect internal abnormalities, complications, and ailments. More specifically, x ray technicians develop materials (such as slides and photos), sterilize equipment, and monitor vital signs. Because this is extremely detail-oriented (not to mention potentially dangerous) work, extensive training and certification is required.
The Importance of X Ray Tech Schools Although many medical facilities will provide on-the-job training, it is strongly advised that individuals attend x ray tech schools if they are serious about long-term employability and career advancement. Typical programs last anywhere from one year to four years depending on the level of training and certification one wants. You can earn a certificate all the way up to a bachelors degree in radiology. Experienced technologists can sometimes move up the ranks to chief radiologic technician, or even department director.
Job Prospects and Salary after X Ray Tech Schools According to the US Department of Labor, job growth for radiologic technicians will be quite favorable in the next eight years. In fact, job opportunities will grow much more quickly than potential opportunities for most other occupations. This rapid growth is largely due to a sizable baby boomer population that is retiring in unprecedented numbers. The current health care industry is not adequately staffed to handle such high demand. As such, earning potential (which is currently around $44,000 a year) should also rise, in keeping pace with continued demand for those with this particular type of training.
