Phlebotomy Training

Diagnostic testing is one of the surest ways to assess, track, and repair illnesses and injuries. Phlebotomy professionals are trained medical personnel that perform most of the critical diagnostic testing in order to treat patients. Phlebotomists are experts in identifying microorganisms that invade the human body by inspecting samples and reporting those findings to a physician.

The Phlebotomy Professional Profile
Also refereed to as a clinical laboratory technician, a phlebotomy professional is an expert in the battery of diagnostic tests that explore and identify irregularities in body fluids. The phlebotomist routinely draws and analyzes blood samples and compares their make-up to accepted levels. The National Phlebotomy Association states that the phlebotomist plays a crucial role in the safety and well-being of patients and health care workers alike. Phlebotomy professionals receive extensive training in the handling of infectious diseases and frequently train other health care professionals in this area.

Phlebotomy Training Concepts
Your road to phlebotomy begins with a bachelor's degree in any one of the life sciences. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics lists chemistry, biology, and mathematics as courses of interest for potential phlebotomists. The National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences certifies 57 phlebotomy training programs across the country. However, it is possible to earn your certification through a combination of specialized, on-the-job training. There is no set standard for certification of phlebotomists on a national scale, so you should check with your state for employment requirements.

The phlebotomy profession is one of the more important parts of our health care industry. You can be working in a medical facility very shortly after completing your phlebotomy training.
