The medical field is blossoming with good paying jobs. Cardiovascular technicians are seeing a large part of that growth, as they occupy a critically important role for heart patients. It''s an exciting career with significant job growth.

Cardiovascular technicians work in close proximity with patients by assisting doctors in diagnosing heart and blood vessel problems. They can assist in heart surgery, or simply read and interpret data from heart monitoring equipment. As a cardiovascular technician, you will have a bright future. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a 24 percent growth by 2018, and a current median annual salary of $47,010.

Cardiovascular Tech Schools

Traditionally, most cardiovascular tech schools are in community or junior colleges. However, it''s becoming increasingly popular for colleges and universities to house cardiovascular tech schools as four-year degree programs. Many students are in cardiovascular tech schools part time while working in the industry as echocardiographers, or EKG techs. This usually requires on the job training by a EKG supervisor or a cardiologist in a certified program lasting 4 to 6 weeks. If a technician is going to perform Holter monitoring, then after graduation, you can expect another 18 to 24 months of on the job training.

Although it is unnecessary, becoming a certified as a cardiovascular technician helps you land a job, as most employers require certification. You will have to study at a recognized accredited program to take the certification exam keep up with your continuing education credits.
