The Top 4 reasons to work in the Medical field

Are you interested in a career in the medical field? Here are four important reasons why you might want to consider a healthcare-related occupation.

Reason 1. High Demand for Medical Professionals
According to the US Department of Labor, the healthcare and medical assistance fields will grow by 30.3 percent and add 4.3 million new jobs over the next ten years. Demand for healthcare is expected to increase as our population ages and people live longer than ever before. For example, predictions from the Department of Labor estimate that over 1.2 million registered nurses will be needed over the next ten years, almost 35% more nurses than exist today.

Reason 2. A Lucrative Occupation
As demand for healthcare increases, earnings in the medical field will also increase. In 2004, the median salary for a registered nurse was around $26 per hour, which adds up to around $55,000 a year. With the potential for wage increases due to greater demand, healthcare professionals should look forward to high earnings and excellent benefits.

Reason 3. Diverse Career Opportunities
Even if you can’t stand the sight of blood, there are still viable career options in the medical field. You might consider being a medical and health services manager who organizes and maintains medical services and records. Healthcare-related administrative positions are projected to increase by 21-35%, and offer very competitive salaries.

Reason 4. Fulfilling Work
Most importantly, employment in the medical field will allow you assist others. At the end of the day, you will leave feeling like you made a difference in the lives of patients who need it most.
